| Bus is the only public transport service available for the people of Mahavilachchiya. Both the government and the private bus services collectively operate about 8 turns up and down from Anuradhapura to Mahavilachchiya per day. A very few individuals have their own modes of transport like vans, three-wheelers motor bikes for traveling. But the common man’s private mode of transport is the usual push bicycle. The road from Anuradhapura to Mahavilachchiya is most of the way in a dilapidated condition. Though the reconstruction of some segment of the road is already under way the rest of the road about 10 km in extent is waiting for the generosity of the existing government or some investment opportunity which would cover the cost for its reconstruction. Till then the people of Mahavilachchiya has to bear up the dust and the skeleton shaking bumping of the bus. However once the condition of the road is upgraded the Vilpaththu being a tourist attraction the lucrative investment opportunities like a star class tourist hotel would not be running at a loss. However the fairly good service is offered by the trishaws which is affordable to the common man in traveling short distances in case of emergency. |
